Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Hypnosis?

Firstly all hypnosis is self hypnosis. Now that may sound like a strange statement to make but it is true. All hypnosis is done within the mind of the person being hypnotised and it is up to them to accept or decline any suggestions given to them.

Hypnosis is a collaborative experience between the hypnotist and the client.

Within hypnosis the conscious mind is bypassed and communication is made directly with the subconcious, the subconsious mind holds all your memories, fears, habits and controls all the parts of your life that you do not consciously need to think about to do, for example blinking, breathing, walking.

Can sessions be done online?

With todays technology and the internet at our fingertips, yes hypnotherapy is can be preformed successfully online via video chat platforms such as Zoom and Skype, the best thing about using these platforms is you can have your sessions from the comfort of your own home, anywhere in the country/world!
Having the sessions done online is just as effective as seeing a therapist face to face, although precautions are always taken in advance in case technology lets us down for a moment and connections get dropped.

What is the Conscious and Subconscious?

A nice simple way to explain this, if you think of your mind as a computer, your conscious mind is a lot like the computer monitor, it deals with what is running on the screen at that time, once that "programme" is closed, its not thought about again unless it gets reopened.
Your subconscious is like the actual computer itself, running all the programmes in the background, all the things that do not need to be on the screen to be working.

What does hypnosis feel like?

There are many different answers to this question, as it is different for each person and can even be different each time for the same person, depending on their mood at the time, for example someone who is feeling quite stressed would find that the relaxation that can be associated with hypnosis to be much more relaxing than someone who is alright quite relaxed to start with.

Here are a few examples of what you may feel like in hyposis;

You may feel light and floaty.

You may feel the opposite and actually feel quite heavy and find your body is too relaxed to move.

Or you could even feel like you are just sat with your eyes closed.

Hypnosis Myths

Thanks to (some) media articles, films and TV shows hypnosis has gathered a few myths over the years, a lot of them do make good film plots but are not true in the real world, below are a couple of the most common myths and a brief debunking.

"Hypnosis is a state of unconsciousness" - Hypnosis is actually the opposite, hypnosis is a state of focused attention, from the outside someone may look unconscious but internally they are completely focused on the hypnotists voice and the suggestions being given.

"I am under the hypnotists control/Mind Control" - as I stated further up the page, all hypnosis is self hypnosis and a hypnotist cannot make someone do something that they are morally against when in a waking state, I like to give the metaphor that the hypnotist is a lot like a Sat-Nav in a car and the client is the Driver, the Sat-Nav can give all the directions is likes but ultimately is down to the Driver to choose to follow those directions or not.

"I will reveal all my secrets to the hypnotist" - as the example as above, the client is always in full control and will not reveal anything they do not want to.
